Mumbai City and FC Goa split the spoils after a goalless draw -.Mumbai City and host FC Goa had a goalless draw on Tuesday in an exciting match at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda. Despite neither team scoring, a number of near misses, close calls, and outstanding saves kept spectators on the edge of their seats the whole time.

Both the Gaurs and the Islanders were able to maintain their league-leading undefeated starts by going home with a point apiece. With 20 points from eight games, Manolo Marquez’s team is still in the lead. The first opportunity for FC Goa, the hosts, to perhaps make a breakthrough came when Victor Rodriguez sent Carl McHugh a precise corner kick; however, Mumbai’s defense stopped McHugh’s header.

Greg Stewart attempted a left-footed effort for the visitors from outside the box in the eleventh minute, but it went high and wide of the mark. Then, Goa responded with a misplaced right-footed shot by Boris Singh, which Mumbai goalkeeper Phurba Lachenpa comfortably handled.

When Rodriguez created a wonderful opportunity in the 16th minute, the Men in Orange appeared to be about to score their first goal. With the ball, he slid past defenders and found Noah Sadaoui, whose left-footed effort Lachenpa made an excellent stop on.

As time went on, opportunities kept coming up. Sandesh Jhingan wasted a great chance in the 39th minute when he headed Odei Onaindia’s delivery wide of the mark.

Both teams continued to play at the same vigor in the second half. Lallianzuala Chhangte of Mumbai City scored a powerful header from close range in the 50th minute, but Arshdeep Singh of FC Goa made a quick save to preserve the visitors from taking the lead.

In the 54th minute, Arshdeep saved FC Goa once more by blocking Akash Mishra’s header after a well-placed cross. In the 56th minute, Greg Stewart of Mumbai City had a chance from a free kick, but his direct attempt missed the mark.

A glimpse of hope for FC Goa came in the 63rd minute when Noah threaded his way past defenders and sent in a tantalizing cross that Victor Rodriguez just missed.

Boris also had two goal-scoring opportunities towards the conclusion of the match; one was deflected away for a corner kick, while the other just missed the mark.

Both teams maintained their defensive positions despite the obvious tension, and the game ended in a draw. Goa’s home games for the first half of the ISL 2023–24 season were completed with the draw. They will now play away games at the end of the month against Mohun Bagan Super Giant and NorthEast United FC.
