Haris Rauf Accused of Ball Tampering -More Suffering for Pakistan, As Pacer Haris Rauf Faces ‘Ball Tampering’ AccusationIn Pakistan’s 2024 T20 World Cup loss to the United States, Haris Rauf, a bowler, has come under fire for allegedly tampering with the ball.
Pakistan’s issues just don’t seem to be getting any better right now. Pakistani player Haris Rauf has been charged with ball tampering following the team’s crushing loss to the United States in their opening Twenty20 World Cup 2024 match on Thursday. Rusty Theron, a former pacer from South Africa who currently plays for the USA senior national cricket team, took to social media and tagged the International Cricket Council (ICC) with a severe charge against Rauf, a veteran pacer from Pakistan.

Against the USA, Rauf had a dismal job at the wicket, taking only one in four overs while giving up 37 runs. Theron said during the game that the express pacer had run his nails into the fresh ball in an attempt to make it flip and confuse the American hitters.

“@ICC are we just going to pretend Pakistan aren’t scratching the hell out of this freshly changed ball?” Theron tweeted on X, formerly Twitter. Is the ball that was just changed two overs ago being reversed? At the top of his mark, Harris Rauf is literally able to be seen running his fingernail over the ball. #PakvsUSA @usacricket.”
Even though the accusation is still very serious, the USA team does not appear to have filed an official report over the incident as of yet.

Regarding the game, Pakistani captain Babar Azam blamed his bowlers, saying they should have been able to do better against the USA squad despite just needing to defend a meek 159 score.

“We can bowl better than that; we couldn’t take wickets in the first six overs. If your spinner fails to take wickets throughout the middle overs, then the onus is on us. We did rally after ten overs, but I believe the US side deserves more credit for how they closed off the game in the Super Over,” Babar stated at the post-match press conference.

In an attempt to win the championship again, Pakistan will next take on their bitter rivals, India.
